  Mission Statement

"To Advance Always.."

We aim to accomplish the highest level in whatever we set out to do. We make it our mandate to always progress forward and to be the absolute best. This is the motto that we here at the St. John Christian Academy live by. Understanding our inner greatness, our true potential, given to us by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to not only become a true success, but to also care for and encourage the growth and development of the children and the people we encounter daily. This is our true motivation.

  About The School

Our History

The St. John Christian Academy began out of a desire on the part of Pastor Emmanuel Jaggernauth and the Cruz Bay Baptist Church to have a Christian alternative to the current elementary education on the island. They wanted sound academics from a Christian perspective. The Martin family, a family from Danville, Iowa, was told by their friends who came to St. John from their home church, Harmony Bible, about the vision that the Cruz Bay Baptist Church had for a Christian school. Wyam and Nancy Martin and their two sons prayed with their pastors and missions committee about the decision. In the fall of 1993, the St. John Christian Academy was founded with the grades going up to K-4 through 2nd Grade. The year after that, it added a third-grade class. In the first two years of the school's inception, the Martins were the only two teachers in the school. They were assisted those years by the Church's Bible College students. The Lukes, Calvary Baptist Church's Pastor Luke, and his wife Marie Luke. An afterschool activity that has held was piano lessons with Mrs. Martin to many of the church member's children. In their words, "The people of St. John were warm, friendly, and loving towards us. We were blessed by the parents of the students we taught by kind comments and full support of our educational philosophy." They believed the children could be challenged academically. They also believed that teaching Bible and using biblical principles in our methodology would bring honor and glory unto our Lord Jesus Christ. Here at SJCA, we use the A Beka Curriculum with the children for a higher learning experience. They also provided the community with beautiful Christmas and closing Spring programs annually. God used humble vessels of clay in the Martins and others, and He is to receive all the glory for the souls saved through the Christian School ministry as well as the discipleship conducted through these 20 plus years. The Martin family left the island of St. John in 1997 and the Bushy family from Washington D.C. after continued the school. The Martins considered the ministry of St. John to be one of the best ministry decisions of their lives. "It was our great honor and privilege to serve Him by serving the children of St. John through St. John Christian Academy," said the Martins. St. John Christian Academy is a blessing to others and to the people who are associated with the school. Praise God for His grace in all your lives today.
